The Fusion Hybrid – Smart and Fuel Efficient

Ever since the Taurus took a nose dive a few years ago, Ford has been looking for a suitable replacement to challenge the Accord and Camry in the mid-sized car segment. The Fusion first came out in Ford’s line up in 2006 but is newley changed with the a Hybrid power plant system that people are really starting to notice. The 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show.  What makes this Ford so special is the excellent in-town gas mileage that the hybrid can get.The Environemetal Protection Agency gives the Fusion a rating of 41 Miles Per Gallon which is muchsuperior than the Toyota Camry, and evensuperior than the fuel efficient Civic Hybrid; all this from a medium sized hybrid car.Without the gas engine, the Fusion can drive up to 47 MPH on just the electric motor alone. There are a ton of Vehicle Magazines that have used these tactics to get muchsuperior gas savings than the EPA ratings.

New technology in the Hybrid allows the Fusion to instruct drivers which driving style gets the best fuel economy. The Engineers have a great feature of gauges built into the dash called the Smart Gauge.  There are 2 LCD screens located one on each side of the speedo which display 4 different information screens. The driver can see the amount of gasoline and the amount of electric charge left in the batteris through the 1st info screen. The 2nd display shows theAutomobile tachometer and also tells which mode the Fusion is running in; full electric or hybrid. The third monitor will tell how the battery power is and what the engine output is.Additional power consumption and power to the wheels are shown in the last data screen. The info centers in the Fusion display MGP, fuel consumption past data, a driving log, and radiator temp.Best fuel economy can be gauged through real time MPG information showing the driver which driving style is best.

You can see the hybrid flow graph located in the navigation screen. These smart gauges will display the different features of the hybrid powerplant including the 2 drives (electric and hybrid), the boost, charging while idle, and of course regenerative braking.

What is really cool about the Fusion is that ford used reclaimed yarns to make the seats, no other hybrid can claim this.Toyota and Honda have been selling thousands of hybrids per year unchallanged, betterlate than never with Ford.
