That this form of discrimination is allowed to be practiced in the United States has lots of single mums disappointed with the system.

Single mothers have been requested to get off welfare and rejoin the workforce, but the workforce is actually biased against them. Many single mums work more than ten hours a day to provide for their kids, with barely any help from welfare or deadbeat dads. Yet, they are given less money than single or married women, provided that they are employed to begin with. They have hardly any support and need to get someone to look after the kids when they are working. If they become ill, the situation becomes desperate, both in terms of earnings and care for the kids.

A past government census figures indicated that over 10 million unmarried mothers reside in the US. Many of these single mothers are starting to band together in local organizations to support the fight for single mums rights. Child care centers, counseling and financial advice are a couple of the advantages there are to being a society member. Other single mums are approaching members of congress to change the regulations that make it allowable to question a woman about her personal relationships.
