An Alcohol Addicted Individual Registers For Rehab And Gets Alcohol Detox And Treatment For His Alcohol Addiction
Donald used to boast to his buddies how he could work at a 40 hour per week job and get drunk as a skunk virtually every night. Sadly, after maintaining this unhealthy lifestyle for just about six years, he started to experience several alcohol related problems.
As an example, he had a real difficult time getting up for work because he felt so worn-out when he got up. Moreover, virtually every morning Donald suffered from a terrible hangover. Obviously, the combination of his hangovers and his lack of energy did not make it easy for him to get up and feel motivated to go to work. To add fuel to the fire, roughly a week ago he received his second drunk driving citation in the past year-and-a-half.
To further complicate things, at work his last two work appraisals were less than satisfactory. And finally, his three-year relationship with his girlfriend had worsened due to his depression, angry outbursts, financial difficulties, and his lack of patience.
Even though Donald was only twenty-three years old, he frankly started to look like he was in his early forties. Unfortunately, this is what abusive and unhealthy drinking can do to a person. And from a realistic perspective he comprehended that he was going through the adverse outcomes of alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction and that he was too young to give up his life to abusive and unhealthy drinking. So at first he tried to drink responsibly and in moderation. Sadly, he soon realized that he lost all control after having his first drink. Since this was a circumstance that was repeated every time he went to a bar to drink, this bothered him greatly. In fact, he started to wonder if he was displaying some of the stages of alcoholism.
After going over his alcohol drinking problems and his abusive and excessive drinking with his lady friend, he eventually decided to make an appointment to see his healthcare practitioner. When Donald saw his healthcare practitioner, he openly stated that he has been drinking in an abusive manner, that he may be displaying behavior that is typical of the various alcoholism stages, and that he wants to quit drinking. He then said that drinking responsibly and in moderation does not work well for him and as a consequence, he wants to learn how he can create an alcohol-free lifestyle.
Donald also told his healthcare professional about his depression and how this mental health issue was adversely influencing his relationship with his girlfriend. His family doctor referred Donald to Doctor Jackson, an alcohol and drug addiction specialist, who inspired Donald to register in a drug and alcohol rehab clinic as an in-patient for alcohol detox and alcohol treatment. Fortunately, Donald would also be able to get medical treatment for his depression at this treatment facility.
After four months of intensive treatment, Donald left the in-patient rehabilitation facility and continued his recovery via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and via outpatient counseling. Inspired to change his life in a more positive way, Donald joined a gym and started working out three or four times per week. Within four months Donald was a new man. He was not depressed anymore, he was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, and most important of all, he maintained his sobriety for many months. He also did not resort to angry outbursts, he became more patient, and he became a more compassionate person in his relationship with his girlfriend. In short, refraining from drinking was the best decision Donald had ever made.
