Recently, Ryan applied for a position as a bouncer at one of the local nightclubs. He had studied judo, ninjitsu, aikido, karate, and gatka for twelve years; he was a body builder; he took daily vitamins, minerals, and supplements; he was into healthy eating and health foods; and he seemed well suited for such a job. When Ryan received the word that he had been selected for the job, he was exceptionally happy. Since this was an exclusive disco, however, he had to go through a three week training class.

On the very first day of class, the instructor began talking about drinkers who drink excessively and what the bartenders, barmaids, and bouncers should do when this state of affairs arises. When the teacher started discussing alcohol poisoning, Ryan was pleased to find out that all of the new employees were required to learn about an alcohol overdose and precisely what they should do when they noticed a person who was manifesting alcohol poisoning symptoms or displaying the signs of alcohol poisoning.

More specifically, all the new bouncers, bartenders, and barmaids learned that vomiting and nausea were almost without exception one of the first signs of alcohol poisoning and that unconsciousness was perchance the most highly visible alcohol overdose symptom or sign. The teacher also made it a point to accentuate the fact that alcohol poisoning signs were signals from the body and from the brain that the drinker had ingested more alcohol than his or her body can metabolize.

There were, however, numerous other symptoms and signs of alcohol poisoning that all the new employees were trained to be conversant with. For instance, the students in the class discovered that people with alcohol poisoning are difficult to awaken, exhibit poor reflex responses, exhibit confusion, and they often have seizures.

In addition, the members of the class discovered that many drinkers who experience alcohol poisoning also exhibit slurred speech; little response from painful stimuli, for instance from pinching; blue tinged or pale skin; and slow, shallow or irregular breathing.

To underscore the influence that binge drinking has on alcohol poisoning, the teacher informed the class that a drinker who gets smashed just a few times per year is, by definition, involving himself or herself in alcohol abuse. Such a person, however, is almost certainly not an alcohol addicted person, but is probably engaging in binge drinking. As declared by the trainer, engaging in binge drinking even once, unfortunately, can lead to an alcohol overdose that in some cases can be fatal.

The trainer then told the members in the class that the most fitting response for alcohol poisoning is the following: if it is suspected that a person has alcohol poisoning, call 911 and ask for immediate medical assistance, even if the individual is underage. By pursuing this course of action, the individual will get the prompt alcohol poisoning medical attention he or she needs.

After learning about alcohol poisoning and particularly about the signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning, it may be pointed out, Ryan believed that he had discovered some valuable information that might save a drinker's life in the foreseeable future. Without a doubt, Ryan learned that knowledge of the typical alcohol poisoning symptoms and signs and knowing how to properly and quickly react to such signs and symptoms (by promptly calling 911 and asking for urgent medical assistance) can help a person avoid a deadly alcohol overdose.
